What is the Kerry Expo?
The Kerry EXPO is a unique one of a kind event that provides an opportunity for businesses, corporations, partnerships and sole traders currently operating in the Kerry region, to come together to exhibit and advertise their business to the general public and engage with the community.
In addition, it provides a formal setting for recruitment agencies and potential employers, to meet job seekers or those looking for a career change. It facilitates government bodies, institutions and agencies by bringing them face to face with budding entrepreneurs or those seeking opportunities in up-skilling or further education.
How many years has it been going?
This is the 2nd year
What was the inspiration behind it?
There really isn’t a place where industries can showcase to both the public and each other without distinguishing between SME’s and Large or Start-up. It also helps to dispel the myth that there are no large industries in Kerry and that there are no employment or career opportunities. The event is a “catch all” allowing the businesses to showcase their leading service or need at the time. So whether they are launching a new product or service or whether they want to recruit the event offers them a platform to publicise this. Also I feel there is a need to publicise the commercial side of Kerry. We have promoted the tourism aspect really well but we have so much more to offer such as, quality of life, low cost of living and I feel we need to encourage the repopulation of isolated areas so as to encourage a rebirth within small communities.
Is there a specific theme 2017?
No not essentially. I guess the overall goal is to raise public awareness and in return bring the industry and greater Kerry community together to celebrate what we have and encourage future growth.
What exciting things can people look forward to for the 2017 event?
A record number of exhibitors signed up to showcase their company at this year’s Kerry EXPO. However organisers are promising much more than a business showcase the EXPO will also deliver a world of family fun!
A stellar line up of family entertainment is currently being programmed and will include, 9ft Robot Ted, Storm Troopers, 6ft Robot Bumble Bee, Magic Shows, Stilt Walker, Drum dances, and that’s just the start. Kids can sign up to 3 different 1 hour workshops, Science Works by Astellas, Designer Minds and Circus Workshops. Meanwhile Moms, Dads and grandparents can check out the vintage cars & tractor, or get some tips from the Supervalue Cooking demos and savour some food tastings from the food academy. Lots of prizes on the day and the winner of the EXPO/Spin video will be announced.
What opportunities are on offer for people / startups / investors and companies attending?
We have a number of start-ups at this year’s event and we hope to grow this in the coming years, for companies attending the opportunity to meet each other at the B2B session and engage with potential new clients / customers.
What tips would you give to people attending to get the most out of it?
Explore each and every company and keep them in mind for when you think you might require their service or promote them when you get a chance. It’s up to each person living in Kerry to become an ambassador for the county and sell its offerings at every given chance.
How can people book tickets / when does it usually sell out?
The event is totally free admission to the EXPO and all workshops and entertainment, the more the merrier!
